How to Run a Group Workshop

Step One - What will you teach/what will the project be.
Obviously the first thing you need to do is decide what you want to teach the group, what skill you wish to share. It can be a technique or skill that others don't know. It can also be something that most people do know but there's something special you think we would all like to make. You can also supply a 'base something(ornament, doll, etc) that we can all decorate with supplies that everyone brings to share.

Step Two - Plan how it will run: More Decision making

You need to decide if while teaching if it will help to have visual aids or printed out directions and diagrams, if so you need to prepare these items.

Make a step by step of house the lesson with go, this is foremost for you however it can also be shared with people to get them interested in attending your workshop/project.

Supplies, will you provide them? Depending on what is needed for your workshop you can take a few different routes. Option one is to make a supply list for people to bring with them. If doing this you need to make it plenty ahead of time and make sure that it is accurate. Option two is to simply have everything everyone will need and charge a fee to dover the price of materials. If any member is found abusing this and charging allot more then the supplies cost you will be banned from running such things in the future. I will allow people to sell EXTRA supplies that aren't needed but could be used at a slightly upped price please use your best judgment on this, there is a fine line and we do NOT rip off other DAA members. The third option is of course a mix of the two, let people bring the most common things such as tools and then supply the hard to find or cheaper in bulk items for a supply cost.

Decide where you will have the workshop. It is Completely acceptable to run a workshop from your own house. You are also welcome to make your own plans to hold it at a 'community' spot at a public/semi-public venue. If you wish to hold it at a place that charges to use it then you make split the cost with people attending, IF and only if this can not be held at an aforementioned spot(such as a sewing class at MAKE)

Step Three - Contacting a council member about running it.
yes this is way down at step three so that we don't have people saying they will do something and then not following through. You will need to provide a description/outline of what you with to do, what will be covered. You will also need to include a supply list if applicable and tell us where (just general we don't need an address yet) it will be held. If you need help finding a 'community' spot that is perfectly fine, just ask.) At this point you also need to tell us when you wish to host this, if you are unsure you can put up a poll for a week or two on the yahoo group and ask people to vote.

excluding if there is a poll all this will be done before posting the details to the group. Of course, you are allowed however to make a generic post or a yahoo poll and ask, "Who would be interested in -insert type of workshop here-?"

If you need help with any of this feel free to ask a council member for their ideas.

go to the Contact page to see how to contact various council members.
